The Nurse and Midwifery Organisation of Ljubljana established the Retired Nurses Section a few decades ago. At the end of their professional path the retired nurses chose to enter and socialize in this section. Its activities are organised at regular meetings of the Executive Committee which has six members who prepare professional programmes and other forms of socialising. The President of the Section regularly attends sessions of the Organisation’s Management Board. The members of the Retired Nurses Section are thus informed about current discussions and resolutions and can, to some extent, contribute to the Organisation’s activities, especially because of their wealth of experiences.
Each year the Section prepares two professional meetings whose programmes include issues proposed by the members. The professional meeting is accompanied by an excursion where the members explore the natural richness of our country and visit important monuments; the pleasant socialising often ends with singing. The members of the Retired Nurses Section can attend any lecture of the regional societies and professional sections free of charge. Retired nurses are eager to keep in touch with the practice and everyday work of their active colleagues; they are also pleased to witness the developments in nursing and midwifery care, which are becoming increasingly visible among the people whom they serve.
